Family Bible Time

We will be looking at the Christmas Story in four different parts. This week, we will be reading about how God's son, Jesus, was given as a gift to the world as a baby. Read together Luke 2:1-7. Look carefully at verse 7. Who is the greatest gift to us?

She gave birth to her firstborn son. She wrapped him snugly in strips of cloth and laid him in a manger, because there was no lodging available for them.
Luke 2:7

Then, look up a famous passages of Scripture about Jesus as a gift to us. Use this printout below to work through it together. Work together to figure out how this passage connects with the story of Jesus birth that we celebrate at Christmas. Simply right click on the image below and select print. Then work together to color the words and find out about the gift of Jesus.

Wrap a Christmas present or even just an item from your house. Then put that gift in a very unexpected place (refrigerator, on top of the washing machine, etc.). Have the children try to search the house to find the gift. Once they have found it, talk together about how God gave the world a special gift, but it wasn't what people were looking for or what they expected. They thought they were getting a strong King to come and save them from their problems. Instead, God sent a baby and he was placed in a manger--a box used to hold food for the animals to eat in a barn! That is an unexpected place for the most important gift ever to be placed, right?

Find a small box in your house and paint it. Then cut up paper to put into it like hay. Use a baby doll and wrap the baby in a piece of cloth. Take some time to talk together about how Jesus is the greatest gift we could ever receive. Ask your children if they have ever received that gift of salvation and talk together about whether that is something they would like to pray about today.

Pray & Worship

Pray together and thank Jesus for willingly coming to earth to save us from our sin. Use the worship songs throughout the week to learn the passages of scripture from this week's lesson. God sent his son as a gift to this world to save the world through Him.
