John 15 Rap
He cuts off every branch joined to me that does not bear fruit. He trims every branch that does bear fruit. Then it will bear even more fruit. You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you.
What was the surprise that Lily had for Branchey?
Read John 15:2-3 - What cuts us off from the Jesus vine forever?
How does a branch become joined to the Jesus vine?
What can happen when a branch on the Jesus vine gets trimmed?
What does it mean to trim something? Give an example.
Why does something need to be trimmed?
What are some things that need to be “trimmed” for us to be able to grow more Jesus fruit?
Think about your life. What are some things that you think may need to be trimmed by God so that you can grow more Jesus fruit for Him? Talk to Him about it and ask Him to cut those things off of you so that you can grow more fruit!
Challenge your family to learn the John 15 rap this week. Play it at every meal time for the entire week so that you get practice three times a day! One way God shows us what things need trimmed from our lives is by revealing it through His Word. Let’s hide as much of it as we can in our hearts so that we can grow for Him!
Work together with your child to make a 3-D tree that you can practice trimming!
First, draw the outline of a tree on a piece of paper (the thicker the paper, the better). Make sure that as you draw the tree outline that the bottom of your tree is level so that it can stand once it's assembled. (See the red line below)
Cut that tree out, and then trace it's outline onto a second piece of paper. Cut the second tree out. Then, fold both trees in half lengthwise.
Next, attach both tree pieces together at the fold with tape or glue.
Now, it is time to make some leaves. To make a lot of leaves at one time, fold a piece of paper multiple times. Draw an outline of a leaf on the top of the folded paper. Then cut through all of the layers of paper at once.
Attach the leaves onto the tree with glue or tape.
Now, cut out pieces of paper into shapes that would not belong on the tree. Attach them to the tree as well.
Throughout the week, come back to the tree and "trim" it by cutting off the pieces of paper that do not belong on the tree. Talk about how God, the Gardener, trims things off of us so that we can grow even more fruit for Him. Think of things that God needs to trim from your life and your child's life and talk about them as your child "trims" his/her tree. Then, pray together for God to help you and your child grow even more fruit.
