Your Next Move | Digging Deeper
Dig deeper and meditate on Bethel Temple CBC sermons
Sermon from Jan. 26, 2020
The story of Cain and Abel is a familiar one, but a closer look allows us to see many parallels between Cain’s decision making process and our own. God cares about the decisions you make, and more than that, He will give you the power and wisdom you need to make Your Next Move.
What are the things people do when making big decisions? How do our emotions impact the decisions we make?
Read Genesis 4:1-16. Describe a time in your life when you knew God was asking you to do something particular or do something in a certain way… and you either did it and were blessed, or didn’t do it and got disciplined?
Families are complicated, at best. Pregnancies, especially unexpected ones, can be very difficult. What can we learn about God’s heart or deepest beliefs on life from these passages: Psalm 139:13-16, Mark 10:9,14, Gen. 4:10? How valuable are you to God?
Read Luke 21:1-4, 2 Samuel 24:18, Hebrews 11:4, 1 Samuel 15:22 and Jeremiah 7:22-23. Describe what a ‘good’ offering is, from God’s perspective. How does this compare with how you usually give or serve?
Cain’s second move was to get angry. Do you think it is wrong or sinful to be angry? What is God’s warning to us about anger in Matthew 5:21-22 and Genesis 4:6-7?
We love justice for others, but mercy for ourselves. Read Romans 2:4-5 & 1 John 1:9. Was Cain’s punishment too harsh, or was it too merciful? Why?
It is easy to be critical of Cain’s bad choices, but what about YOU? God cares about your next move, whatever it may be. Pray and ask God where you need to obey his voice and where you need to change the path you are walking on. He is gracious in leading us on right paths if we listen to Him.
HIDE THIS IN YOUR HEART
If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
